BARN Fundraising Events
Volunteers assist our Executive Director with our annual fundraising events, such as our Golf Tournament in spring and Festival of Trees held in November. (Festival of Trees is a Gala held at the Westfield’s Marriot in which many donations, including pre-decorated holiday trees are auctioned off. Dinner, dancing and gaming tables are all part of the fun.)
Building Projects
Volunteers that have the ability and resources to help with projects around the facilities to either repair replace or add a new structure. This could be the fencing, playground screened in porch, storage areas, etc. If you want to volunteer as a group, please fill out the Group Volunteer Application.
Car Repair/Car Maintenance
Volunteers are desired who have the know how to fix minor repairs on the residence vehicles or a donated vehicle.
Childcare, various days or evenings
Volunteers, age 16 and older, provide childcare to BARN children while mothers are schooling, children are sick and cannot attend daycare, or if mothers are offered a group session.
Childcare
Volunteers, age 16 and older, provide childcare to BARN children while mothers attend classes. Be part of a fun team and make a difference in the life of a child. Commitment needed for Tuesday evenings from 7:15-8:45PM.
Donation Sorting
Volunteers work in teams to organize and sort donations in preparation for our monthly yard sales. Times and days are flexible to meet your schedule! This is a great activity for individuals and groups with day time hours. This is one of the few positions we have available on Weekends. Work is done in a building without heat and limited air conditioning and on an unlevel concrete surface.
Drivers needed
Volunteers are needed to take a 1 ½ ton automatic moving truck to Farm Creek Drive in Woodbridge to drop off goods. No lifting necessary. Truck is usually emptied once every three weeks and takes approximately 3 hours.
General Maintenance/Handy-persons
One-time and ongoing volunteers to assist BARN with painting, changing filters and light bulbs and general fix-it projects.
General Office/Clerical
Volunteers assist with answering phones, mailings, data entry and other clerical functions. Hours are needed anytime between the hours of 9:30PM-5:30PM, Mondays – Fridays.
Teaching a Life Skill or Trade
One time or ongoing opportunities to educate the residents on home buying; job hunting; resume writing, tax help, sports, music, theater or dance lessons.
Tutors
Volunteers provide evening tutoring to BARN children. Reading and assisting BARN children with their homework can be fun and rewarding. Commitment needed for Monday or Thursday evenings from 7-8:30PM.
Yard Sale Volunteers
Volunteers are needed to assist with 2nd Saturday of the month yard sales held March-November. Volunteers asked to be on site from 7:30AM-12:30PM. Work is done in a building with out heat and limited air conditioning and on an unlevel concrete surface.
Yard Work
Pulling weeds, around the house and the playground seem to take much time, so we look for groups to come in first thing in spring and then throughout the summer to keep the weed population down. Individuals are also welcomed.
